Sorex caecutiens annexus Thomas from Korea


Abstract
In a review of insectivores of Korea, Jones and Johnson (1960) indicated that Sorexcaecutien annexus Thomas was known from only two localities and three specimens in Korea: 2 females from Min-gyong, 110 mi. SE of Seoul in northern Kyong Sang Puk Do and 1 female from 3 mi. SSE of Sumil-li in western Kangwon Do. Won (1967) also noted records in Manchuria, but not the recort from Surnil-li. Tipton etal (1972) recorded a flea from an unidentified Sorex from Chunchon, Kangwon Do.
During 1973 and 1974, extensive cocllections of small mammals were made in northern Kyonggi Do in the general area north of Seoul City and south of Demilitarized zone. These collections were made to investigate the possible role of small mammals or their ectoparasites as reservoirs or vectors of Korean Haemorrhagic Fever. We were fortunate to obtain, during the course of our collections, four male specimens of the masked shrew, Sorex caecutiens annexus.
All four specimens were collected in Kwangnug National Forest, Pochon Gun, Kyonggi Do at an elevation of between 150 and 300 ft. The shrews were captured along a small
